Oman Vision 2040 is an ambitious yet practical national program initiated according to the Directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said – May his soul rest in peace. The vision was formulated on the bases of a wide community consensus and participation of many groups of the society. The aim of the Vision is to guide the future planning efforts of the country at several levels with a full acknowledgment of the economic and social realities in Oman.
The Vision outlines are articulated based on several coordinators including United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and it consists of three themes: People and society, Economy & development, and Governance and Institutional performance. Within the theme Economy & development, environmental sustainability emerges as a main concern for the government and as a role player in enhancing economic performance by offering new opportunities in utilizing environment resources in a sustainable manner to support the society to flourish. Equally important, the sustainable development in governorates and cities appears as one of the national priorities of the 2040 Vision. The goals of this priority are to manage traditional resources and reuse alternative resource in order to establish a blossoming national economy. The vision intention in this particular priority is to use renewable resources, achieve food and water security, preserve natural resources, wastewater treatment, reduce energy consumption, reuse resources and enhance environmental awareness.
