


Oman Vision 2040 is an ambitious yet practical national program initiated according to the Directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said – May his soul rest in peace. The vision was formulated on the bases of a wide community consensus and participation of many groups of the society.
The move towards sustainable built environment in Oman is timely and important. Given the weather conditions and the high demand in energy consumptions that is mostly depending on non-environmental friendly resources and the government policy towards adopting a sustainable development strategy, shifting to a sustainable built environment practices is crucial.

HOSN is a simple yet practical local building sustainability rating system for the Omani building sector. Although HOSN main focus is on residential buildings, it can be used to rate other building types such as educational, cultural, commercial and demonstration buildings.

In spite of the efforts to adopt a sustainable built environment strategies in Oman, to our best knowledge, there is no systematic and scientific study that investigated Omani perception of sustainable built environment nor their priorities for sustainability components.
